At Studio 1883, we believe that when you create something yourself, you are doing more than just creating an object – you are pouring a piece of yourself into your creation. Whether you craft as a small business or as a hobby, we believe that everyone should have access to affordable supplies and a place to openly share ideas and explore the latest trends.

ABOUT US

Crafting has always been a huge part of the life of Angela Hunt, the owner of Studio 1883. Always curious to know how things are made or how they work, she was always one to tweak something to make it exactly what she wanted or talk herself out of buying that pricey home décor item, because there was always that thought of “I can make that.” When her oldest daughter was in high school and found a passion for photography, of course they had to look for creative solutions to display her works. Doing some research, sublimation appeared to be exactly what they were looking for. Being a Silhouette Cameo user for years, sublimation seemed like a natural progression, and they jumped in feet first. Sublimation offered not only a way to display her daughter’s artwork, but also opened an option for her daughter to finish pieces as a way to make money for college.  Little did she know, this was the start of something wonderful, and would change her life.

To keep costs down, they bought blanks in bulk, and in a short time, supplies from the various vinyl crafts. And the new sublimation supplies began to overtake her basement craft area. Angela decided to sell some of the extra supplies online and a small business was born. That venture didn’t take long before it outgrew the house and was quickly becoming a full-time job in itself. It was Angela’s husband who suggested one day that she had the option of leaving her full-time job as a Technology Manager and making this a full-time business if she wanted to. With the love and support of her husband and three kids, it was then that Studio 1883 truly came to life. After almost two years of planning, searching for a location, and getting set up with vendors, and a few setbacks, Studio 1883 opened its location in New Albany, IN in June 2019 being run solely by the family.

OUR GOAL

Since its opening, Studio 1883 has expanded, hired its first employees, and thanks to the support of so many wonderful customers, in 2021 bought a bank building and renovated it into the store you will find now in Jeffersonville, Indiana. During that time, we have built up relationships with many of the biggest names in the crafting industry and are proud to be partners with names such as Siser, Starcraft, Silhouette, Sawgrass, and Glitter Chimp just to name a few. Our hopes are that we can continue to supply our amazing customers with a place where you can not only get a reasonable price on the items you need, but also a friendly place to shop and ask questions about the latest trends in crafting or get advice on a project you’re working on. We have worked hard to have the friendliest staff who are crafters themselves and love sharing their knowledge and experience with others. We want everyone who comes to Studio 1883 to feel like they have come to their craft home.
